Big Lunch and Open Garden Squares Weekend - Saturday 9th June

We threw our doors open on Saturday 9th June for the annual Big Lunch community party and Open Garden Squares Weekend. So lots of members of the public came to have a look around our gardening areas, Cookery School and Community Centre and join in the fun for a Big Lunch community gathering.

There was a party for the Big Lunch in the Edible Yard and Cookery School, with something for all ages from hula hooping to live music, and making guacamole to drawing chickens! There was a card making stall for those interested in crafts, and glitter tattoos.

Our new resident chickens were a popular attraction, and visitors could get up close for a stroke and watch them clucking around in their run, or sit and draw them!

All photographs taken by Peter Robertshaw.

Everyone enjoyed a barbecue lunch (chicken was not on the menu) and the rain held off for what was a lovely day for the community around our Centre.

This event was kindly supported by Tesco Bags of Help community initiative.

The Big Lunch is the UK’s annual get together for neighbours, an idea from the Eden Project made possible by the National Lottery. The Big Lunch started in 2009 with the belief that we’re better equipped to tackle the challenges we face when we face them together.  Last year over 9.3 million people took part in over 96,000 events across the UK. www.thebiglunch.com
