Firm Futures is a collaboration between St Luke's, law firm Slaughter and May and Centa Business Services. The project was launched in 2013, and since then Firm Futures has run annually, with a wide range of applicants securing a place on the programme including single parents, young entrepreneurs and those not able to find full time employment. Of the 27 businesses who received support, 18 are either progressing towards trading or are now trading.

Successful ideas have included a branding businessa bakerybaby massage, yoga teaching, personalised embroidered gifts, mobile beauty business, a freelance photographer and a florist stall.

Hana set up bakery business, Nirvana Cakery: “Firm Futures has helped me to build confidence in starting my own business, the mentoring is really valuable not just to bounce off ideas, but also committing to them and making progress. And most of all, the bursary has been really important in helping me to purchase the necessary equipment to get started with my business idea."

Belange launched a design and branding consultancy: “The Firm Futures programme was a great opportunity for me to showcase my business and also secure funding to help expand. It was an incredibly valuable experience based on the fact that you were being judged and invited to a prestigious law firm and the winners got a mentor as well. Having a mentor of such calibre was extremely beneficial.”

We are currently waiting for confirmation as to whether the programme will run again in 2018.
